Identity theft too?
Published on January 16, 2005 By Ingui In WinCustomize Talk
I was laughing at the "I Googled myself" thread and figured what the heck. The first hit was my name on customize.org which I do not recall ever visiting let alone setting up an account. Some of my Blinds, cursors and Walls are here... http://users.customize.org/Ingui

At First, I remembered reading posts about another site that is an alternate front for Wincustomize? But the authors comments (he even uses my name)are not my own.

Anyone familiar with the site? I've read plenty of "rip" posts here but.. anyway, should I just contact the site?

Not much I think you can do about someone else using the same nick as you, but you should first contact the admins there and explain what is happening. If you need "The Big Guns", you might ask Jafo to see if he can help you out. See how far you get with Customize.org first. Good Luck.

Ok Essencay, thanks. Here goes nothin'

OK,

The 2 addies listed on their contact page return as "undeliverable". I spent some time searching through the members for some form of moderator. I found 3. Only one has so far replied and this is the text of that mail:

I'm sorry sir, I can't help you there. I'm not an administrator at that
website(even if my user page says so; I quit a couple months ago). Anyways,
it seems somewhat odd for a person to imitate you and submit the stuff,
because wouldn't that mean that you still get the credit? I've never once
before encountered someone ripping and still giving credit to the original
author(using your nickname). I can understand your position, though, but I'm
a bit skeptical. If you have access to that account, just go to manage
uploads and delete your submissions. It's as easy as that and you don't need
to have admins do it for you. Anyways, that's just my opinion. Sorry if I'm
way off base. Just seems like a really wierd situation to me. This is not
meant to anger you or anything, and I have no affiliation whatsoever with
the staff at the moment.

-Scott

The "author"(cough) btw, has no email listed.

How do I reach these people? Should I join the site and post on their boards "you have a thief in your midst"?

sigh...

The "Cloned" you ...has an inbox for messages under his profile.

I suggested what he could do with himself.

and advised that he pull those work's and his account immediately.

Good luck with this.

Funny Ending

customize.org has a neat feature that tells you who is online, who is idle, etc.
"Ingui" was online.
I created an account. I signed in with the user name akaIngui. "Ingui" goes to Idle. akaIngui posts an ambiguous question about rips on the message board. "Ingui" deletes his entire library. It's gone, for now I guess

I saw that. Good going.

He'll be back, but maybe with someone elses name.

hehe... nice.

...might also have read my message to him

...what can I say?! ...I was VERY blunt

I LOVE happy endings, lol

Ingui  ...I got your emails but was waiting till this evening when I had some free time to devote to pestering Custo's admins for a solution to your problem.

If it rears its ugly head again let me know....

"when I had some free time to devote to pestering Custo's admins for a solution to your problem"

Well gee, thanks Jafo, but I think we are more than capable of handling it ourselves. I think Scott actually thought the guy had just reg'd and forgotten, since the names were the same. Scott notified the rest of the staff ASAP, but by that time the situation had resolved itself.

In the future if you need to contact any staff member simply go to "staff bios" on the main page and PM one of us. Try me personally first. I'll be glad to sort out any problems you may have with people taking credit for your work. We have recently been having problems with the *@customize.org email addresses, but hopefully they will be resolved soon.

Customize.org has a no tolerance policy towards ripping and we urge anyone who finds something ripped on the site to notify us, be it through a pm or publicly on the message boards.

In the meantime, please, no "pestering" the staff.

Thanks.

I recieved the email and posted it in the staff message boards immediately. I do not have the power to ban, delete user accounts etc. so I could not directly fix this problem for you. It was taken care of in one day, which I feel is very quickly. I can also be contacted very easily as I check my email multiple times a day and check custo even more frequently.

I hope everything worked out to your likings.

colossus72 ... no need to get all defensive . I know full-well what it's like to be 'pestered'.  I get it from all quarters too....

I'm just glad to see it's sorted and we can all go back to cheating at Solitaire [my pasttime] till the next 'drama' arises....

okay. just so you know, it's well in hand.
